Overview: Jura X10 Review
The Jura X10 is a perfect example of Swiss coffee engineering. My take? Jura developed this fully automatic coffee machine to please the manual brewing refuseniks. One look at it, and you know you’ll have an awesome auto-brewing experience!
At first glance, the Jura X10 commands attention. Its elegant dark metallic housing, clean lines and 3.5-inch (9-centimeter) touchscreen display exude modern sophistication.
The P.A.G.2+ grinder is another game-changer. It utilizes precise, ceramic conical burr grinders that are also remarkably quiet. Yet another standout feature is the X10’s Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.). It pulses hot and cold water through coffee grounds in short bursts. This optimizes extraction times, achieving a depth of flavor that outdoes many traditional Italian espresso machines.
Similarly, the Fine Foam Technology deserves special mention. It uses two separate chambers to create impossibly silky milk foam for both lattes and cappuccinos. And with 35 programmable drink specialties, from ristrettos and cortados to cappuccinos and flat whites, the Jura X10 caters to every coffee lover.
This machine boasts an Intelligent Water System (I.W.S.). It automatically detects a CLEARYL Pro Smart+ water filter using RFID technology for both hot and cold brews.
Moreover, the Jura Operating Experience (J.O.E.) app adds another layer of tech convenience. Remote-program the machine’s settings and initiate brewing from the comfort of your smartphone. And as this is a multi-user coffee machine, for safety, the bean container, water tank and brew settings are lockable to protect against tampering.
At $3,999.00, the X10 represents a serious investment. Despite this, it promises exceptional value. With a mind-blowing daily capacity of up to 100 cups, it’s a darling of busy offices, caterers, self-service zones and high-volume coffee shops. Definitely a step up from the Jura Z10!
Jura X10 Features
So how do the features of the Jura X10 stack up? Let’s dive deeper to uncover the secrets hidden within.
Size and Design
The Jura X10 is an impressive coffee machine that combines style and functionality. Measuring 18.5 x 14.7 x 16.5 inches (46.9 X 37.3 x 41.9 centimeters), it demands a significant amount of counter space.
However, it also rewards users with premium design. Brushed aluminum panels in black and grey guarantee neutrality in any decor.
A sleek color touchscreen showcases Jura’s commitment to sophistication. Other thoughtful features include a 169-ounce (5-liter) water tank and height-adjustable dual spouts. This machine also boasts a generous 17.7-ounce (501-gram) bean hopper, extendable to 35 ounces (1 kilogram). This hopper also comes with a preservation cover, guaranteeing bean freshness.
This intuitive design also highlights key operational brewing areas. A substantial removable drip tray with a professional-grade metal grill, for instance. And a front-access used grounds container holding 40 pucks.
Clearly, Jura gave much thought to design ergonomics with this machine. While it’s sizable, its dimensions are purposeful. It comfortably houses commercial-grade components needed for reliable, high-volume performance. This makes it a statement piece equally at home in modern offices as in coffee shops.
User Interface
The Jura X10’s 3.5-inch touchscreen color display brings a modern tablet-like experience to coffee making. Unlike button-heavy competitors, it operates using gentle swipes and taps. Navigate 35 programmable specialty drinks and (no joke) arrange them like a personal coffee playlist.
This machine also allows users to customize hot and cold drink recipes. Adjust drink volumes, temperatures (across 3 settings) and brew strengths and milk textures (across 10 levels).
The interface is remarkably easy to use. Tapping an icon provides clear step-by-step guidance. Similarly, real-time brew adjustments remain simple with slider controls.
Innovative maintenance features also abound. These include clear notifications (with step-by-step cleaning instructions), and a smart dashboard that tracks maintenance cycles.
One minor quirk is that deep customization settings need a few extra taps. However, this trade-off keeps the main interface clean and uncluttered. This, more than anything, makes it ideal for multi-user commercial environments.
Jura Grinder
At the heart of the X10’s grinding system is a superior Professional Aroma G2+ (P.A.G.2+) grinder. This system, similar to the Jura E8, features ceramic conical burrs. Apart from being super durable, these burrs also keep the decibels down.
With 10 grind settings and an easy-to-reach top adjustment wheel, this grinder handles every type of coffee bean. How? By monitoring and adjusting times based on bean densities and roast levels. Granted, this grinder might seem limited compared to stepless grinders. However, Jura has cleverly chosen its increments to cover the full range from fine-grind light roasts to coarse dark roasts.
The extendable 1.1-pound (500-gram) hopper capacity also hits a sweet spot. It balances capacity, convenience and freshness.
When it comes to cleaning, this machine’s self-adjusting burrs maintain optimal performance. However, I recommend monthly cleaning using the provided grinder tablets. Similarly, the hopper’s aroma-preservation cover does a decent job keeping beans fresh. But again, I recommend storing your main bean supply in a separate coffee container.
One minor drawback is cleaning access. These burrs need disassembly for deep cleaning. However, this is rare with proper maintenance.
With this grinder, Jura has eliminated common issues that lead to inconsistent extraction. They have, in fact, delivered precision that rivals standalone burr grinders. Quite an achievement for an all-in-one coffee machine!
Pulse Extraction Process
Jura’s Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.) has revolutionized espresso extraction. Unlike traditional continuous-flow methods, P.E.P. uses a pulsed brewing technique. This improves coffee flavor and quality.
Where cheaper super-automatic espresso machines often produce flat-tasting shots, P.E.P. extracts more distinct flavor notes. Especially in lighter roasts. Remarkably it does so for both hot and cold brews!
P.E.P. in the Jura X10 operates entirely in the background. It seamlessly integrates with your drink selections and customizations. The only trade-off is a slightly longer brewing time. And a distinctive (and irritating?) pulsing rhythm during brewing.
Does it work? In my experience it does. Users report that even challenging lighter roasts reveal their full flavor complexity. In my humble opinion, the improved flavor profile justifies the minimal added brewing time.
Jura X10 Milk Foam System
Jura’s Fine Foam Technology elevates milk frothing through a sophisticated dual-chamber system. The first chamber creates microfoam, while the second refines milk texture. Both offer users unprecedented control.
With 10 temperature and 10 texture settings, you can customize milk consistency for any drink. Whether crafting silky foam for latte art or a thick hold-its-shape foam for cappuccinos, this system does it all.
The professional-grade HP3 milk system also offers remarkable flexibility with automatic milk to milk foam switchovers. Position it on either side of the machine and connect it to a stainless steel vacuum milk container to keep it chilled. Or link it to a refrigerator for busy office or cafe environments!
Cleaning is also effortless. The system automatically rinses after each use. It also includes a cleaning container for automatic cleaning. In addition, all milk-carrying parts are dishwasher-safe.
Specialty Drinks
This Jura coffee machine has an impressive 35 programmable specialty drinks menu. From classic espressos to complex flat whites, you can make it all! Its most innovative feature is creating multiple milk textures in a single drink. For instance, you can make a latte macchiato with silky steamed milk and precise microfoam.
The touchscreen display also offers intuitive programming with visual drink blueprints. Choose from 9 hot coffee, 9 cold coffee, milk-only, hot-water-only (for hot cocoa, tea and such) and extra-shot settings. Simply tap to change these parameters and save custom settings.
Like in the Jura J8, a clever dual spout system automatically adjusts cup height up to 6.2 inches (15.7 centimeters), for everything from espressos to travel-mug-size lattes. And for milk drinks, the self-cleaning mechanism ensures quality and hygiene.
While these options might initially overwhelm, the logical menu and clear visual guides shorten the learning curve. Here, Jura has transformed commercial coffee preparation into a personalized, tech-savvy experience.
Intelligent Water System
The X10’s Intelligent Water System (I.W.S.) monitors water quality using RFID technology. This allows it to automatically detect the CLEARYL Pro Smart+ water filter’s status. It also alerts you when the water filter needs replacement, eliminating guesswork about water quality.
Crucially, the 169-ounce (5-liter) water tank integrates seamlessly with this system. When you insert a new filter, the machine recognizes it instantly. After this, it resets the monitoring cycle.
This Jura X10 water filter also optimizes water hardness settings based on the filter status. So, if you don’t replace the filter when prompted, the X10 automatically adjusts its cleaning cycles to prevent limescale buildup.
This system is also remarkably low-maintenance. All you need to do is replace the filter when prompted. Furthermore, the transparent tank makes monitoring water levels effortless. And with a top-fill design, refilling is a breeze.
Jura App
The Jura Operating Experience (J.O.E.) app elevates the X10’s smart capabilities. Unlike typical coffee apps, J.O.E. offers genuine utility. It allows you to store and customize up to 35 drink recipes!
Using this app, you can also fine-tune every aspect of your beverages, from brew strength and temperature to milk foam consistency. The intuitive interface uses simple sliders and visual guides, making sophisticated adjustments easy.
Multi-user support is another standout feature. It enables users to save and access their favorite drinks without unauthorized changes. Crucially, intelligent preheating lets you pre-program machine set-up and brewing remotely.
Additionally, this app’s maintenance guidance goes beyond basic error messages. It provides clear, animated cleaning instructions and proactively tracks maintenance needs.
Bluetooth pairing is also pretty straightforward. As long as you have a stable Wi-Fi connection, it’s operational within 30 feet of the machine.
One minor quibble is the shallow usage statistics. However, regular app updates prove Jura’s commitment to improving the user experience.
More than just an add-on, this app is an integral part of what makes the X10 a powerful and user-friendly machine.
How to Use the Jura X10
Firstly, familiarize yourself with the user interface. Upon powering up, you’ll notice how quelle belle the interface is. It displays drink options with high-resolution images that make drink selections a breeze. It also shows you exactly what’s happening during the brewing process.
Coffeeness Signature Espresso Blend
High-quality beans through direct trade
Notes of Chocolate & Hazelnut
Easy on the stomach
Freshly roasted right in Brooklyn
Medium roast
In addition, the grinder automatically adjusts to your chosen recipe. However, you can also fine-tune the grind size through the settings menu.
To make your perfect coffee:
Select your desired drink from the touchscreen menu
Adjust the coffee strength (up to 10 levels)
Fine-tune for your desired volume of coffee and milk
Choose your drink temperature preference
Save your preferences with a custom name for future use
To make milk-based drinks, connect the milk pipe to your container (as usual, this Jura machine doesn’t come with one). After you do so, the machine will handle the rest. It has separate temperature and texture settings for each drink and will froth perfectly textured milk for milky coffees.
The beauty of the Jura X10 is that despite its professional-grade capabilities, it’s still easy to use. Whether brewing a simple espresso or a complex specialty drink, the touchscreen guides you through every step.
Pro Tips
Use the programmable start-up time to warm up the machine in advance
Take advantage of the recipe storage feature to ensure consistent drinks across multiple users
Keep the bean hoppers topped up to prevent inconvenient “beans low” warnings
Jura X10 Cleaning
I’ve extensively tested and maintained super automatics. As such, I can tell you that the X10’s longevity depends on proper cleaning and maintenance (notwithstanding the intuitive self-cleaning programs).
The key is following a simple daily routine. First, empty the drip tray and clean the milk system and container after each use. Then, wipe the bean hopper(s) with a dry cloth to remove oil residue. Lastly, wipe down the touchscreen and outer body with a non-abrasive cloth.
Crucially, the X10’s automated cleaning cycle handles all the heavy lifting. The machine will prompt you when it’s time for a deep clean. This includes a daily milk system purge, monthly coffee system cleaning or descaling. The entire process is 100 percent hands-off. All you need to do is pop in the appropriate Jura cleaning tablet and follow the touchscreen instructions.
For optimal performance, replace the CLEARYL Pro Smart+ water filter every 2-3 months. Always use filtered coffee water to prevent scale buildup and improve coffee taste. Oh, and, remember to remove the water filter before descaling.
Another must-do is an annual check-up (with a certified Jura technician, of course!). I also recommend sticking with Jura’s cleaning solutions to protect your investment. This includes the ceramic grinder burrs. Clean them every 3-4 months using only Jura’s cleaning tablets.
Pro Tips
Clean the drip tray daily – it fills up faster than you might expect
Never skip milk system cleaning – dried milk can cause serious problems
Regularly check and clean the powder chute to prevent blockages
Keep cleaning supplies in stock to avoid delays when prompted
Document everything in a maintenance log to track cleaning cycles

Jura X10 vs Other Super Automatics
Jura X10 vs Z10
The Jura Z10 and X10 represent different philosophies targeting distinct markets. The Z10 is for luxury home users. Conversely, the X10 serves small businesses and offices needing heavy-duty, professional performance.
Design-wise, the Z10 is more compact. It boasts an elegant dark aluminum or white finish and larger 4.3-inch color touch screen. In contrast, the Jura X10 features a larger, commercial-grade build and smaller 3.5-inch display. Both machines, however, work remotely with Jura’s J.O.E. app.
Other similar specs include P.E.P. and Fine Foam Technology. Both machines also use the Intelligent Water System with RFID filter monitoring. They also boast height-adjustable and width-adjustable dual spouts and automatic switchovers from milk to milk foam.
Where they differ is in their grinding systems and bean hopper capacities. The Z10 has a Product Recognizing Grinder (P.R.G.) that automatically adjusts grind settings – fine for espresso, medium for americano and coarse for cold brew. The bean hopper capacity is also smaller. On the other hand, the Jura X10 uses a Professional AromaG2+ grinder optimized for high-volume grinding and boasts a larger hopper.
Another significant distinction is in beverage versatility. The Z10 offers 32 programmable specialty drinks, with 8 cold coffee options. On brewing, it leverages Jura’s eighth-generation brewing unit and 3D brewing tech, to enable water to flow evenly through coffee grounds at multiple levels.
The Jura X10? It also uses 3D brewing tech but offers greater versatility, 35 specialty drinks to be exact. It also has a larger 169-ounce (5-liter) water tank compared to the Z10’s 81-ounce or 2.4-liter reservoir.
The Jura Z10 also goes for $3,999.00. I would opt for it for high-end home use and the X10 for high-volume commercial settings.

Jura X10 vs GIGA 10
The Jura X10 and Giga 10 represent different professional coffee machine tiers. In particular, the GIGA 10 is a more premium, commercial-focused coffee system. It’s larger, has a sophisticated twin-spout design and a more robust aluminum housing.
While the X10 targets small offices, the GIGA 10 is built for higher-volume commercial environments, like restaurants and large offices. Its dual 6.7-inch touch screen offers more control than the X10’s 3.5-inch display, and curiously, a smaller 88-ounce (2.6-liter) water tank. Both connect to the J.O.E. app, but the GIGA 10 provides more detailed customizations.
Grinding systems also differ significantly. The Jura X10 uses a Professional AromaG2+ grinder, while the GIGA 10 features two electronic ceramic disc grinders with two 10-ounce (280-gram) bean containers. This allows for the parallel preparation of different bean varieties without the risk of contamination.
Granted, both machines utilize P.E.P., Fine Foam and Intelligent Water Systems tech. Both also offer 35 programmable specialty drink options. They can also prepare two specialty coffees simultaneously and boast automatic switchovers from milk to milk foam.
However, the GIGA 10’s dual thermoblock heating system delivers superior temperature consistency.
As such, the pricing differs. The Jura X10 costs $3,999.00, while the GIGA 10 costs slightly more at $4,989.00.
So which should you choose? I would opt for the X10 for small offices and cafes. The Jura GIGA 10? If I want dual bean hopper flexibility and maximum output in busy commercial environments and self-service zones.
